Transferring files from the Research Computing (CRC) using Globus

To request Globus be installed on your UPMC computer, please place a software request in the IT Service Portal.

Initial Setup

  1. Open Globus Connect Personal from the start menu
  2. Login with your Pitt account. Choose University of Pittsburgh as the organization
  3. We recommend leaving the label as the default. It should default to the computer’s name. Click “Allow”
  4. We recommend using the computer's name as the collection name. Do not check “High Assurance”
  5. Exit Setup  

    Adding additional locations to Globus (Network Drives, Data Drives, etc.)

    Before Globus can access a location on your computer, you must manually add it to the client.

    1. Open Globus options from the notification tray in the lower right corner of the screen by right clicking the icon and selecting “Options ”.
    2. Click the “+” icon and select any additional folders/drives you want. Your mapped network shares should show up under “My Computer”.

    Using Globus

    1. Open Globus from the notification tray in the lower right corner of the screen by right clicking the icon and selecting “Web: Transfer Files”.
    2. Set the view to “two pane” by clicking the button in the upper right corner of the window.
    3. Search for “pitt#dtn” as the Globus endpoint to connect to.
    4. Use the file browser to move files and folders as needed.
